Pending Eviction Possible Motive In May 3rd East Blithedale Shooting

Editor's note: I was sitting in my car yesterday when I received the Nixle alert. Link to sign up for Nixle is located after the update from Marin Sheriff.

From Marin Sheriff:

Yesterday at around 3:44 pm our dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call from a resident at 939 E Blithedale stating there had been a shooting at the apartment complex.

The resident said that two people had been shot. A deputy arrived within two minutes and found a man and woman both suffering from gunshot wounds. The deputy and his back up evacuated the wounded to the street where they were placed into ambulances and taken to MGH for treatment. The man was able to give us the name of the suspect, who also lived at the apartment complex. There was conflicting information as to the whereabouts of the suspect. The MCSO Special Response Team was requested to do a high risk search of the complex to find the suspect. They were able to find the suspect in his apartment deceased, suffering what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot. A revolver was found lying at the feet of the suspect.

Unfortunately the woman did not survive and died at the hospital. The man spent the night in ICU and is expected to survive.

Detectives developed a possible motive of a landlord / tenant dispute. But they have yet been able to speak to man because of his condition. The man is the landlord of the complex, the woman was his daughter. They went to the complex yesterday to talk to the suspect (tenant) about a pending eviction when an argument took place before the shooting happened. The revolver found in the suspect’s apartment is believed to be the weapon used in this incident.
