District 4 Response to Sheriff's Update

On Friday, the social media accounts for Marin Sheriff posted what appears to be misleading information. As a service to our fellow citizens in District 4, we are sharing this, response from Supervisor Rodoni.
According to my research, there was no decrease in the budget, but the full requested increase was not granted.
Please see related "Point Reyes Light" article for more information.

Due to time limitations of this volunteer blog, we suggest you go to the original sources and seek additional information, and sign up for Supervo
Isor Rodoni's newsletter. Subscribing to the Point Reyes Light is also a good idea.

Yet another lesson about the importance of complete communication and civic engagement.

Dear District 4 Resident:
Thank you for taking the time to read this communication. I hope you and your family are well given the unprecedented circumstances as a result of our COVID-19 pandemic. I want to take an opportunity to address a recent Facebook posting by the Marin County Sheriff's Office related to recent budget negotiations and their announcement to cut back staffing in Pt. Reyes Station. Click here to view the post
Given my conversation with the Sheriff, I was under the impression that the staffing shortage was due to the inability to attract new officers, the amount of overtime our patrol officers currently work, and partly due to the budget reduction. He made it clear that this action would be temporary as there is currently a new class of officers undergoing a 12-week training program.
Since this morning, I have spoken to the Sheriff and has he apologized for not telling me about the staffing changes, before posting them publicly. He was not aware that this information was being released today.
We are committed to working with the Sheriff to make sure West Marin has ample coverage for our needs. As I learned yesterday, the reduction of deputies in West Marin has been an ongoing conversation due to data revealing the low-call rates during the night and morning periods.
I want to sincerely thank the deputies who serve our communities in a very professional and respectful manner every day.

Best,
Rodoni Signature
